Giving people back their time and their lives

Kidney Health Australia has a bold ambition: to end dialysis by 2050.

For people with kidney failure, dialysis is life-saving treatment. But it also takes an enormous physical and emotional toll, consuming hours at a time, several days each week.

To build support for Kidney Health Australia’s vision, people first needed to understand why ending dialysis matters.

Making an unseen burden visible

Dialysis is widely recognised but rarely understood by those who have not experienced it.

The creative challenge was to communicate the relentless nature of treatment and the time it takes from people’s lives, while respecting those who depend on it. The campaign needed to create empathy without exaggeration or sentimentality.

Letting the reality speak for itself

We created a film centred on Rodrigo, who is living with kidney disease, and his experience of dialysis.

The production was approached with sensitivity and a small footprint. We worked closely with Rodrigo, the dialysis centre, medical staff and Kidney Health Australia to capture the reality of treatment without disrupting patient care.

Purposeful cinematography, close observation and detailed sound design allowed the physical environment and repetition of dialysis to carry the emotional weight of the story.

Four hours. Three times a week. Every week.

The campaign translates the ambition to end dialysis into something personal and immediate.

Rather than explaining the treatment through statistics alone, it focuses on what dialysis takes from the people who rely on it: time, energy and moments that cannot be recovered.

It gives audiences a clear reason to support Kidney Health Australia’s vision, not simply to improve dialysis, but to create a future where people no longer need it.

A powerful case for change

The campaign gave Kidney Health Australia an emotionally resonant way to communicate its End Dialysis by 2050 ambition and build greater understanding of the realities of kidney disease.

The film was also shortlisted at the 2025 Shots Awards Asia Pacific, recognising the strength of its storytelling and craft.
